- Convert function declarations to use modern syntax without 'function' keyword
- Replace uppercase variable names with lowercase equivalents
- Use proper quoting for variables and command substitutions
- Replace legacy test conditions with modern [[ ]] syntax
- Update string literals to use single quotes where appropriate
- Improve readability and maintainability of bash scripts
